Chevy Silverado GMC Sierra Replacement Rear Upper Shock Mount Round Crossmember #ad - Too much road salt, not enough underbody washes. Second is rust. As the oe piece has proven to have a few potential issues and is difficult to find a replacement for, we have taken these steps to design and manufacture a quality replacement. This was manufactured using custom jig, allowing for proper cut and correct bolt hole alignment, we then utilize custom dies to fold/bend the steel with a press, to achieve the correct dimensional width. Of course those that had already fatigued and cracked made it easier for rust-thru to occur. One issue is that the factory design originally had the shock mounting bolt a little further away from the crossmember than was necessary, this allowed for the side walls of the mount to stress crack at the weld. All tolerances and clearances have been checked for this design and there is still complete articulation of the shock, even at full suspension compression and full droop., Our shock mount bolt hole has been drilled to 13mm to allow for the 12 mm bolt, if you find that your shock bolt does not slide into the hole, then open the hole up with a 15mm drill bit to accept your 14mm oe bolt. Our pre-fabricated shock mount is then coated with light machine oil, and placed in a labeled bag. We produce our parts in small 200-300 piece lots to run random quality checks against a control piece and adjust any machines or tooling. It has been determined that by shortening the distance from the crossmember weld to the bolt hole, the mount becomes more rigid since there is less metal to flex and fatigue. Please take note after much research we have discovered that some of these trucks are shipped with a 12mm shock mount bolt, while others are shipped with a 14mm. Qty included, one (1) shock mount brackets made from 11 gauge mild steel. Rear axle upper shock mount custom designed to fit 99-07 silverado / sierra 1500 ½ ton trucks that have round tubular frame stiffening crossmember. We suggest doing this before tack welding in place.
